Mike Edwards has died at the age of 89.
He began his journalism career at the tender age of 14, the Sunday Mirror reports, as a cub reporter on the Surrey Times. His Fleet Street career bagan on the Sunday Mirror’s forerunner the Sunday Pictorial after he was demobbed following the Second World War.
Mike Edwards never really had a retirement as he was headhunted by the Sunday Mirror after supposedly retiring from the Daily Mail in 1985. He continued to work for the paper right up until his death from a heart attack on 9 May.
Brendan Barber, TUC general secretary commented that Edwards was “a model of polite persistence - ideal qualities for a journalist”.
