|Norman Atlantic Car Ferry. Distress flare fired|
An Italian flagged ferry carrying nearly 500 passengers is on fire off the Greek island of Corfu, the fire started early Sunday, passengers fled to the upper decks as galeforce winds and rough seas made the rescue nearly impossible. No liferafts were visible on webcams, and craft from other ships have not been able to take anyone off, again due to rough sea conditions. later reports say 150 passengers taken off, some by helicopter, but one person has died.
Later shots show one containerised self inflated orange liferaft, when by now, several dozen should be bobbing around in the water. The air and sea rescue search has been halted as night falls and to be resumed in the morning.
