A LAN Airlines Airbus A320-200 operated on a code share for LAN Colombia, registration CC-BFC Flight LA-3160/4C-3160 Bogota to Bucaramanga (Colombia), was (February 7th 2015) on final approach to Bucaramanga. After receiving and confirming landing clearance, the pilots spotted an aircraft preparing for take off on their allocated runway. The Airbus went around and turned to offset from the runway centre line. The aircraft subsequently positioned for a second approach and landed safely.
The airline promptly filed a safety report with Colombia's Civil Aviation Authority stating that their crew had received landing clearance at Bucaramanga by the Control Tower, however, on short final, sighted an aircraft, preparing for take off, positioned on the runway and went around.
