|Russian Cruise Missile, 'test firing.'|
The European Aviation Safety Agency [EASA] has issued a safety bulletin to airlines and authorities using Iranian and Iraqi airspace after Russian warships based in the Caspian Sea fired a series cruise missiles toward Syria.
In the EASA bulletin, it says "before reaching Syria, such missiles are necessarily crossing the airspace above (the) Caspian Sea, Iran and Iraq and below flight routes" used by commercial aircraft.
No specific instructions are given as the EASA Bulletin is an advisory information point and issuing this bulletin to inform airspace users about the potential hazard. However EASA said it will be amended "if more specific information is received."
Russian Navy warships are currently based in the Caspian Sea, to tspercificallt arget the Islamic State group in Syria. However some of the missiles have been falling short of their intended targets.
