BREAKING NEWS: It is thought that five people died early Monday morning (October 24 2016), when a light aircraft crashed, and burst into flames during take-off from Luqa Airport Malta.
The crash occurred at 0530 GMT, as the light aircraft was heading for Misrata in Libya. Rescuers are searching for survivors.
The aircraft, now known to be a twin-prop Fairchild SA227-AT Metroliner, manufactured in 1983.
An air accident investigation has already started and a local official suggests 'terrorist related activity has yet to be ruled out'.
