With the major CAA clampdown on flying display aerobatics in the UK plus health and safety issues being a major headache and the primary item on this years show agenda for both big and small show organisers; word reaches us from BADA that the all important pre-season national conference for air show organisers later this month is already fully subscribed and no further bookings are being accepted.
Our own industry soundings, reveal that many show and event organisers are in 2017, increasingly leaving matters to the last moment, with the result that major hire elements, stands, honey wagons (loos), show staff, PA systems and show commentators - the backbone of any county or outside show - may run into difficulties as the essential kit and personnel to run it are in short supply, and may already be fully booked or have work visa complications, ensuring they give the UK a miss this year.
Many other stalwarts of the show and event business, have simply decided there isn't sufficient margin left and have left the industry, heading for greater financial security and pastures new.
Show organisers who may, or fear they may be in difficulty can contact our office on 01733 345581, as we might be able to assist, even at this late stage.
Certainly for those still without resources booked and in place, replacement mobile show exhibition units can still be hired in from Europe, but with the timing of 'brexit' complicating matters, the usual 85% transit and travel premium may well top 150% with a corresponding uplift in insurance liability.
In addition, TV and Film production companies, (thanks to the regional success of 'Bake Off' and 'X-Factor') are making more of their programmes outside of London and the South East, on location, the knock on effect is that television has belately discovered the versatility, cost effectiveness and flexibility of clear space mobile pop-up exhibition units, in addition to bespoke film location units to house their travelling production resources. Regional Cities - with switched on Planning Departments - faced with empty warehouse shed space to let, are also cashing in short term rentals for TV production, putting pressure on hire units such as toilets and catering dining buses.
Guest overseas commentators who thought they don't need a working visa for the UK, are now also finding the UK immigration authorities are taking a much closer interest in their current UK visa status at the arrival airport, and could find they are on the next flight back home, especially if a fee or any payment for services or facilities are involved. Equally technology has rendered some roles redundant as it is possible to provide descriptive commentary over ISDN and SKYPE live links.
