|Spot the Boeing 747s....Rows and rows of end of lease Jumbos waiting forlornly for a new owner....|
Boeing have given the strongest indication yet that the end of the 50 year old Jumbo jet is nigh. Recently expensively revamped, the Boeing 747- 400 as the 747-8 has failed to win over the likes of Fedex and DHL as new inventory, after the cargo version initially failed to ignite significant new volume sales, probably because, many not so old 747s are parked up in droves in US desert parks, as they come to the end of an initial lease term, and left with the leasing company.

Ironically the Jumbo may just have the last laugh as the US President is routinely carried around in Airforce 1 which has traditionally been based on a ramped up, highly modified Boeing Jumbo jet frame. The firm say they are contracted to deliver the next Jumbo 747-8 to the President, but that will not be before 2028! Because of this need to maintain the production capability, the cargo version of the Jumbo may still be produced in small quantities or as one off specials.
