Passengers were evacuated as a security precaution from a London Heathrow bound British Airways (flight BA 303) airplane at Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris on Sunday morning although after an exhaustive search it turned out to be a false alarm.
The aircraft was surrounded by a squad of armed police and airport based firefighting crews reported passenger James Anderson, 20, who tweeted “ British Airways flight BA0303, currently being held on tarmac at Paris due to [alleged] security threat, surrounded by police and fire vehicles.” He added: “Apparently an individual has made a direct threat to this aircraft. “We will all be led off the aircraft and baggage searched in due course.”
Other reports suggest that a full search of the aircraft and hold baggage was carried out, along with body searches of individual passengers. Service dogs were also deployed sniffing all the baggage, suggesting that an explosives device may be concealed in hold baggage.
In accordance with international agreed aviation safety protocols, the aircraft was moved to a secure holding area prior to the searches being carried out. In a tannoy message to passengers the pilot claimed that a threat against a specific flight had been received.
A spokesperson for British Airways said: “The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our top priority. “Additional security checks are being carried out as a precaution. “We would never operate a flight unless it is safe to do so.”
