Airbus to wind down and cease A380 superjumbo production by 2021. French and German A380 production lines will end
French and German lines will close following completion of a much reduced order book and the production line closure of the freighter version which had orders for some 15 units. Those customers are now taking a freight version of smaller Airbus aircraft.
In the early years the A380 was profitable and many orders and options outstanding but then passengers decided the no longer wanted a 'hub and spoke' style of air travel -where you transfer to a smaller aircraft to complete your journey. However there are hundreds of A380s currently flying worldwide and some still being built for operators such as British Airways.
Generally Airbus is profitable. Figures announced this morning show a surplus of 580billion euros and an outstanding backlog of over 7,500 Aircraft. The latest development will again not be good news for airbus in Wales where A 380 wings are assembled.
Passengers now prefer point to point, their journey effectively delivered in one hop from departure airport to your intended destination, with no interchanges or hanging around in transit lounges.
There have also been well publicised diagreements and issues over engine types. Rolls Royce engineering coming in for some of the industry gossip causing industry analysts to mark down the future profitability of the A380-800 and in turn making customers look again at their forward order book.
Some deciding that small twin engine aircraft are the way forward, but no one can take away the stunning technological achievement of this aircraft, however it is simply decades ahead of it time. Wr clearly are not ready for it. So those airlines that have embraced the A380 may just have the last laugh.

AAIB to stand down active sea search due to forecasted continuing poor weather conditions after a remote vehicle recovered body is handed over. The AAIB investigation is into the loss of aircraft N264DB with footballer Emiliano Sala, a passenger on board.

At around 3am on Sunday two highly specialist search and recovery vessels left port to search 4 square nautical miles of the English Channel and possibly a particularly deep underwater crevice called Hurds Deep where WW2 spent and deactivated munitions were dumped in the 1950's.
MMV Morvan is a commercial survey ship fitted with side scan sonars and submersible underwater vehicles. This has been crowdfunded, and some £260,000 has been raised.
The second vessel chartered by the UK AAIB with technical.support from both the French BEA and Argentinian search authorities is the MV G.O. Ocean3.
Should the missing Piper PA46 310P Malibu be located within the intended 3-day intensive sea bed search, the data will be handed to the AAIB and the private search drawn to a close.
Insiders suggest that due to Footballer Emiliano Sala making those inflight calls from his smatphone, the searchers have used triangulation data from cellular telephone towers in The Channel Islands, France and the UK. In addition satellite traffic has been examined. The result being a greatly reduced search footprint, the co-ordinates positioning benefited from the finding of seat cushions, wind and tide tables.
The chance finding of two seat squabs said to be from the missing aircraft on the beach at Surtainville, Normandy renewed calls for the search to be resumed.
The search will be conducted on a gridlike pattern and will be concentrated on the seabed. Previous searches were mainly conducted by air over a much wider footprint.
Meanwhile Julian Bray the UK based broadcaster and aviation security expert is calling for all aircraft seating components to carry identification tags giving the registration of the aircraft plus wing sections and external facing moving parts to also have the aircraft registration details physically etched into the surface.
Passengers luggage should also have flight details placed inside all luggage units and sealed inside a waterproof flourescent pocket. This could be issued at the time of booking by travel agents and possibly funded by travel insurance companies.
